Am I the only one who wishes they would add ebike assist level to the di2 shifter buttons? Seems like an obvious thing

Should I buy Race or Race S? The price doesn't matter but Race S is 70€ cheaper. I will use it for daily use, durability and build quality is number one priority.

Seems that while downloading maps through Map Manager, Edge 840 goes into sleep after 15 minutes or so if you do not keep it alive by pressing buttons or tapping screen frequently.

The newly updated data field editing options are the only thing I would really want from the 1050 or this update. I'm not seeing it anywhere, am I missing something?

series 6 owner here... was considering a series 9 but more without blood oxygen sensor... hard pass.

I hope the improved gradient support comes to the Explore 2. Although, it might be a good time to upgrade, because no matter what I can’t turn off laps. It’s off in the menus but adds a lap & annoying onscreen notification every time I hit the breaks moderately hard.

I'd love to see improvements in Workout screen on Edge 1050... this would be one thing to convince me to spend a lot of money (again....). In E1040 it's pathetic, designed by somebody who apparently is not training with power -- crucial information too small, yet a lot of wasted space.

as much as the large battery life is nice, the solar panel taking up most of the top is certainly not the most visually appealing haha. it looks extremely awkward with the bezels.

Is reporting hazards count from the point you first touched the right category or when submitting it? Waze invented to work precisely marking the point from where you first touched it. It can lead to misunderstandings otherwise. Oh, and do you have to have a route loaded or works in free ride aswell?

My only issue with all these Suunto, Coros and Polar watches is that they keep ommiting ANT+. I spend a lot of time racing indoors and having ANT+ is an absolute must when my Bluetooth power meter is already busy sending it's power info to the tablet. I absolutely need that ANT+ on the watch so it can receive the power data. Oh well! I think Suunto is missing out on a lot of customers, because in addition to other people needing what I need, they also push Garmin on their friends so they can all be in the same ecosystem. As much as I like Suunto, Coros and Polar, my girlfriend and her friends and all my friends I push to Garmin solely because of the ANT+. It's a bigger deal than most people think.

Great review as always, Ray. This is obviously a non-starter for those of us who don't use Zwift, or as I call it "riding inside the head of a psychotic toddler with ADHD" . Smart bikes are always one of those things I look at with some interest but never really have a desire to own one. My pain cave has my old CX frame with Rival drivetrain so it's almost exactly like outdoor equipment. I'm all about making the indoor experience as much like outside as I can.

these group ride features seem cool and all, but i really don’t think they'd be usable unless they're intuitive & require little to no effort. the current group track features don’t work easily; i tried to have my mom show up on my map, and despite her being one of my garmin connections and us both having live track enabled we couldn't see each other on our maps. if garmin requires people to be connections, have live track and group track enabled, have the route running, and have a consistent phone connection, i don’t think it would come up. i have borrowed a wahoo from a family member and was pleasantly surprised to see other wahoo users on the map despite me not initiating anything, having the route running, or being "friends" with them in any way

Ray, does the rider alert/hazard option allow riders to note changes to the surface? I ride a lot in northern Virginia and often the routes on RideWithGPS are badly wrong - imagine making a short sharp descent over a creek and all the sudden it's unexpectedly gravel. Oof! Happens a lot

Every 2 ears to spend 699 euros for the new bike comp - not me. Happy with my Bolt 1 - works flawless. All this tek - is not necessary for every day ride. Even pros are using 530 or 520 for there grand tours. All this tek is stupid. I can bey cheaper android phone.

I am not seeing the share on my 840, does there need to be another edge nearby for it to show up, I am on the latest firmware.

The Garmin Instinct is a fantastic watch and function wise pretty much the holy grail of any digital watch lover. However, the design has become boring and is completely outdated, Garmin needs to make something really cool sci-fi/retro/futuristic looking (take a look at the Timex Command Shock for a good example), something in a rectangular 16:9 widescreen format. And please get rid of that stupid circle in the upper right corner it is entirely pointless in a MIP watch and WAY too much Casio'ish (G-Shock'ish).

Is the 1040 likely to come down in price now? Been waiting to buy my first bike computer and was leaning towards to roam v2 but if this drops might be a better option due to multiple bike profiles and off road directions.

Coming from a Forerunner, the stopwatch on the Venu 3 is a great disappointment. It does not have 'laps' functionality. I wish I had bpught the FR265.

I am in process switching form Wahoo to Garmin 840. I use Strava premium. I dont see Strava rides that were recorded on Wahoo Roam in my Garmin Connect feed. Is that my fault or a limitation?

but are they going to solve the SSID WiFi bug (it can't communicate directly with WiFi with a hidden SSID) or the idiotic auto screen brightness setting on the Garmin 840 that sets the brightness way too low in dim light? I don't see either on the list of changes.

anyone have a clue why this only seems available on the US website? their support says it's "sold out" in Europe, but I can't image that - I checked the website just a few hours after the product announcement on instagram and their own website.

I would appreciate a backport of "Garmin Share" to the 30 series which provides already "Share files" via Bluetooth without the code confirmation. Backwards compatibility matters. All users of a 520, 820, 530, 830, 1030 and so on can share routes except the users of a 40 series device. The users with a device from the 40 series are locked out. Similiar for GroupRide, which is probably a way more comfortable than GroupTrack but of little use if the 30 devices cannot join.

I'm sure it'll be a buggy mess, just like all Garmin devices are on release (and usually for many months/years afterwards). Worst quality devices I've ever used in my life. They never perform anywhere near as well for me as your reviews imply.

Just throwing it to the wind here: could one use a 540 strapped on a dog together with the group ride feature to locate the companion that might have found something interesting and linger behind the group ?
